April, 2010

My Companions:

April 20, 2010, The St. Patrick Chapter No. 145 Ceremonies of Installation and Investiture, my first official function. What a day! Many thanks go the five companions of Seguin Chapter who also traveled to Newmarket to support my visit.

Not only did we receive a warm welcome from many old and new friends but we were all privileged and honored to find our Grand First Principal, M.Ex.Comp. Roland P. Mandeville, also in attendance. M.Ex.Comp. Mandeville, fulfilling a The St. Patrick tradition, brought with him the ‘Traveling Triangle’ a very valuable and very old jewel to place on the V.S.L. for the Convocation. Many pictures were taken of the Triangle, perhaps R.Ex.Comp. Eric Lakien could display one on the District Web Site. [Webmaster note: Click here for a photo and a little background on the tradition mentioned.]

Grateful thanks are extended to the good ladies of The St. Patrick’s officers, who started us off with a fine dinner.

I must also thank our Most Excellent Grand First Principal for his grace, warmth and kind words which made an already very nervous Grand Superintendent comfortable and able to enjoy my first visitation in this capacity.

The Installation was well done by Ex.Comp. Lachlin (Scotty) Hamilton and his team and I congratulate the newly Installed Ruling Council, Ex.Comp. Bob Martin, Z., Ex.Comp. David Leong, H., and Ex.Comp. Harvey Williams, J., as well as all The St. Patrick officers and Companions, and wish you all a successful and memorable year.

I look forward to greeting my many old friends and making many new on my travels to the District 9 Chapters various events.

    God Bless all.

Fraternally, R.Ex.Comp. Fred Dimmick, Grand Superintendent, District 9

My Companions:

What a wonderful year I have had as Superintendent of District 9. More candidates and a terrific district has made this a rewarding year.

Let me thank my own Chapter, King Cyrus No. 232 for all their support. I would like to thank R.Ex.Comp. Harold Belfrey for proposing my name as Grand Superintendent. My thanks, as well, go to my secretary Ex.Comp. Al McDonald for all his work and accompaniment over this past year - Well done Al.

What a terrific and distinguished group of chairmen and Grand Chapter Officers I had assisting me this year:

        R.Ex.Comp. David Hardie - Education
R.Ex.Comp. David Walker - Regalia and Treasurer
Ex.Comp. John Lidstone - Publicity and Communication
Ex.Comp Bruce Dickson - Grand Chapter Charities
        R.Ex.Comp. Eric Lakien - Regalia
R.Ex. Comp. Sidney Maddock - Grand Chaplain
R.Ex. Comp. William Lidstone - Grand Executive Committee
V.Ex. Comp. Brian Hopkins - Grand Steward
R.Ex. Comp. Donald McCutcheon - Grand Master of the Third Veil

I must thank my lovely wife Myra for her constant support. Thank you dear.

The Installations and Official Visits have been completed with proper care and attention. The District meetings were well attended and input and discussion were well received.

The Kichikewana Chapter BBQ again was an outstanding success. Well done R.Ex Comp. David Walker and the entire crew from Kichikewana.  The joint meeting of Mount Sinai Chapter (our District)  and King Solomon Chapter No 8 (District 8) on the same evening together was an enlightening experience. This was done not only once but twice. The Companions who attended truly enjoyed these evenings. Well done R.Ex Comp. Eric Lakien, who co-ordinated the logistics of two Chapters meeting together, and combined Degree teams, on candidates from both chapters.

Throughout my term my Secretary and I were well received and acknowledged within the respective chapters. The chapters displayed courtesy and friendship to all. I felt that I was attending my own chapter when I was conducting the Official Visits and Installations. My congratulations to the companions of Kichikewana through their First Principal John Lidstone for winning the Traveling Triple Tau. Well done! Our web site is impeccably well looked after by R.Ex.Comp. Eric Lakien. The Divine Service was well received. R.Ex.Comp. David Hardie conducted a wonderful service. His lovely wife, Carol, accompanied him on the organ to enhance this auspicious ocassion. Thank you both. I must thank Ex.Comp. Hal Lippcott for his assistance with arranging the dates, times and refreshments for the District Meetings and Divine Service.

To Ex.Comp. Fred Dimmick (Grand Superintendent Elect) and Ex.Comp. Andy Dimmick (Secretary designate), both of Segiun Chapter No. 261, I wish the best for this upcoming year. I know each of the chapters will support them during their term in office.

To cap off the year, on my last Official Visit I was extremely honoured by having representatives from all the chapters in the District.  Thank you. This has been a very special year.

September, 2009

My Companions:

I trust you have enjoyed your cool Summer and are now looking forward to a hot Fall.

I must congratulate R.E Comp. David Hardie and his lovely wife, Carol, on their wonderful organization of the Divine Service at the Barrie Masonic Hall on September 13th. As well, my compliments to Ex.Comp. Hal Lippcott for organizing the delightful repast after the Service and for allowing us to hold this Service at the Barrie Masonic Hall. Thank you to the Companions and their wives who attended this auspicious service. I look forward to the next one.

What a delight it was to attend my first Official Visit which happened to be at my Chapter, King Cyrus No. 232. A job well done! Congratulations to The St. Patrick Chapter No. 145 who with their attendance at this first Official Visit have taken the prestigious Traveling Triple Tau award. Well done! Companions, let us see if we can win this honour for our own Chapter at the next Official Visit which will be at Kichikewana Chapter No. 167 on October 5th in Victoria Harbour. Nothing is more rewarding than to visit the various Chapters in our magnificent district.

Please check the district web site for the remaining Official Visits and Installations. A big thank you to R.E.Comp. Eric Lakien for his terrific work on keeping this fine web site so up to date.

Companions, I trust that you will have a delightful Thanksgiving with your families and may the Great Architect bless you all.

April, 2009

My Companions:

Greetings to all the Officers and members of District 9 R.A.M. Chapters.

After an impressive Grand Chapter meeting in St. Catherines, I look forward to visiting all the Chapters.  I have visited Mount Sinai Chapter No.212 on April 7, 2009 and King Cyrus Chapter No. 232 on April 15, 2009.  Both I and my secretary, Ex. Comp Alan McDonald, were very well received.  We are looking forward seeing many Companions during the very busy schedule of Installations coming up for the District over the next month or so.

Let us convey the idea of Royal Arch Masonry to our fellow brethren in our individual lodges. It is this addition of candidates that will benefit and expand our Fraternity and Chapters.

Finally, let us join our fellow companions and make an effort to visit the various Chapters within our District.

Fraternally, R.Ex.Comp. Michael F. Boland, Grand Superintendent, District 9

Annual Report - 2008-09

My Companions:

I wish to acknowledge all companions of District 9 for the support and co-operation I received during my term as Grand Superintendent.  It is the membership that has made this year so rewarding and memorable for me.

I would also thank my own Chapter, Kichikewana Chapter No. 167, for their support and assistance given me, in particular R.Ex.Comp. David G. Walker and R.Ex.Comp. J. William Lidstone for proposing my name as Grand Superintendent. I hope I have met their expectations. I wish to thank my secretary, Ex. Comp. Brian Hopkins, who has worked so hard to ensure that all the tasks of my office were recorded and reported to Grand Chapter. I would further extend my thanks and appreciation to V.Ex.Comp. Murray Lockhart and to Ex.Comp. Michael Webb in assuming the role of secretary for Ex.Comp. Hopkins while away on holidays.

My first function was the selection of District Chairmen and I wish to thank those members who so graciously accepted their role for the District. R.Ex.Comp. David P. Hardie, Education; Ex.Comp. Bruce Dickson, Grand Chapter Charities; R.Ex.Comp. Eric H. Lakien and R.Ex.Comp. David G. Walker, Regalia; Ex.Comp. John W. Lidstone, Publicity and Communications.  I truly appreciate your support and commitment to Royal Arch Masonry.

Finally, I wish to acknowledge the encouragement and support of my wife Debbie, who also accompanied me on several functions.

During the year I have attended all District Installations. In each case the Installing Board included members from other Chapters within the District, which displays the readiness of the District Chapters to co-operate with each other.

Among my duties, I hosted a Chapter of Instruction, and District Meeting in June and plan my final District meeting for March 7, 2009. I was in attendance at the Kichikewana Chapter barbecue. I had the pleasure of accompanying a member of Kichikewana Chapter to Durham Chapter, of District 4, to be received as a MEM. I also had the pleasure to travel with members of Kichikewana Chapter to Lebanon Chapter of District 8, to present a recovered past principals jewel back to their Chapter. I enjoyed an entertaining evening in Hepworth, of District 4 during their district reception for the Grand First Principal. I must also comment on having had the opportunity to attend a King Cyrus Chapter meeting in support of 12 candidates being exalted as Royal Arch Masons.

At each of my Official Visits I was received in the appropriate manner. The standard of work varied from satisfactory to very good. When it was necessary to make comments to the principals, it was immediately acted upon, in privacy. All of the Chapters performed the ceremonies with dignity and sincerity. Finances in most Chapters are in fair to good shape, the problem of outstanding dues is creating some concerns for some Chapters. One Chapter has been very pro active in addressing outstanding dues in a positive manner with good results.

Four Chapters in the district do not have a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Those Chapters have been encouraged to place a name forward, should they have a member of recognition. I feel the Chapters noted will be forthcoming in their support.

The District was fortunate in not loosing too many Companions to the Grand Chapter above. I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the individual families, friends, and to the Chapters who have been effected by the loss of these fine men.

The Traveling Triple Tau was presented to the Chapter with the largest number of visiting members present at each Official Visit. This year I had the privilege of presenting the award to the members of Couchiching Chapter No 198, in Orillia, through their First Principal, Ex.Comp. William Easley

    Finally, I am pleased to report that Capitular Masonry in District 9 is quite strong, with all but one Chapter conferring degrees on candidates throughout the year, that one Chapter having conducted several exemplifications over the year. The number of applications for membership has been improving in the District.;

Our District web site is continuing on with much success and I must offer my appreciation to R.Ex.Comp. Eric Lakien for his support in developing and keeping the web site current.

Each Chapter has presented themselves with the appropriate attitudes of friendship and courtesy. Their meetings were conducted in a serious manner while establishing a relaxed atmosphere leading to very enjoyable evenings.

I wish my successor the best of sucess and enjoyment as he takes on the mantle of leadership for the District. I hope that he will reap the same rewards as I have - to get to know so many of the fine Companions of our District.

Fraternally, R.Ex.Comp. Harold E. Belfry, Grand Superintendent, District 9

January, 2009

My Companions:

I would like to start my message by offering you and your families the very best as we embark into a new year. We carry forward our remembrance and reflections of treasured times from the past year and now look for prosperity as our lives evolve. Our true masonic values and purity of heart as Royal Arch Masons will enable us to seek that support we need.

I would like to offer my heartfelt thank you to the members of District 9 for the support shown during my term as Grand Superintendent. My Official Visits are complete as are the Installation Ceremonies although I will continue with upcoming unofficial functions until our Grand Convocation in April 2009. This is not to say my visits are over as I plan to continue my travels throughout the district.

Although, as not to be interpreted as my final report to Grand Chapter, I must comment on several functions over my term to date. In May of 2008, I had the honour of attending King Cyrus Chapter to witness the exaltation of 12 members as Royal Arch Masons. Quite a feat and conducted in a most proficient manner. A recovered past principals jewel was returned to it’s home and presented back to Lebanon Chapter. An evening with District 4 in Hepworth, was most entertaining, while being in attendance at a reception for our Grand First Principal and his wife. Another well attended, Kichikewana Chapter barbeque was hosted by R.Ex.Comp. David Walker, and numerous Royal Arch Masonic presentations within our district will also be remembered.

This now brings me to my next observation, that, while talking with R.Ex.Comp. Eric Lakien to whom we owe so much in assuming the role of controlling our District web site, he is looking for support material to post for all to see. He requires all or any happenings on Royal Arch Masonry to keep the Companions updated. I know many photos were taken at meetings and socials and it would be encouraging to have these photos posted on behalf of the district. If your Chapter has photos, please contact R.Ex.Comp. Lakien or myself so arrangements can be made to present our district both inside and outside the province.

Our next function will be the District meeting on Saturday, March 7, 2009 starting at 11:00 a.m. in Barrie. At this meeting we will review the past year of Royal Arch Masonry in District 9, followed by the election of the Grand Superintendent for 2009-2010. And finally, our province’s Grand Chapter Convocation at St. Catharines from April 1-4, 2009. This provides an excellent opportunity for all companions to attend and see first hand, the set-up of Grand Chapter, the displays for all Masonic organizations and manufacturers, plus an opportunity to attend a session of Grand Chapter, (regalia required).

Companions, the role of Grand Superintendent has proven to be most fulfilling and allowed me to meet many Companions who all share a value in that you feel and enjoy a unique sense of unity and fellowship resulting in enjoyable and unforgettable experiences.

Fraternally, R.Ex.Comp. Harold E. Belfry, Grand Superintendent, District 9
